What is customisation and/or personalisation, and is there a difference?

Customisation and/or Personalisation can turn any gift into something truly special for whoever receives them. People often use the words personalisation and customisation interchangeably. There is, however, a subtle difference between the two... Personalisation is as simple as adding a name or message where as true customisation is creating a unique product with your specially selected background, character, colours and text (where available)

How do you create these amazing designs!?

We are design and imaging experts with over 25 years of experience in the industry. We work with a team of highly trained and experienced chemists, R&D specialist, colour experts, print operators and all round super stars who design and create high quality products. In addition to our team of geniuses, we use the best inks, image transfer media, products and machinery money can buy to do our designs justice.

What printing process do aardmanbyme.com use on their brilliant products?

We use a technique known as Dye Sublimation to permanently transfer full- colour images and text onto specially prepared products using patented ink, heat and vacuum pressure. The image is permanently sealed to the product delivering a stunning design and a hardwearing finish.
When it comes to our T-Shirts, the best thing about sublimation printing as opposed to other types of printing, is that the printed area does not become “hard” and have that tell-tale plastic-like sheen to it. Instead the design, which uses dye instead of ink, permeates into the fibre of the shirt.
Unfortunately, this can also lead to the design fading over time, as the colour of the shirt fades too. We recommend you do not put sublimated mugs in the dishwasher or microwave. The best way to keep the colours vibrant is always to hand wash.

What is FSC certification?

FSC certification ensures that products like our canvases come from well-managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. More info on FSC Certification can be found here.

Can I return a customised product?

Generally, personalised items cannot be returned, unless there is a manufacturing error or product defect. This does not affect your statutory rights. Please remember to always check names are spelt correctly before submitting your order as personalised items cannot be amended or changed once submitted.

Please note that we can personalise products with A to Z, numbers 1 to 9, and some symbols. Please note that AardmanByMe.com reserves the right to refuse personalised orders at our discretion. In the case of inappropriate use of this service, your order will be cancelled and you will be fully refunded.

Are there any restrictions on how I can personalise a product?

Text can include name and nicknames. Text should not include any of the following:

  • Profanity, offensive or controversial language
  • References to illegal substances or activities
  • Political statements or names of political figures
  • Religious statements or names of religious figures
  • Company/business names, including trademarks, slogans or taglines
  • Sports team names, slogans or emblems
  • Text that may violate the integrity and reputation of Aardman or any of its subsidiaries

Please note that AardmanByMe.com reserves the right to refuse personalised orders at our discretion. In the case of inappropriate use of this service, your order will be cancelled and fully refunded. We reserve the right to decline to use your text at our sole discretion. Prior to entering text, please read carefully to understand our T&'Cs.

Will you amend my customised text?

All Personalisation will appear exactly as it is written. Please ensure when entering your personalised message that the text is correct as you wish to see it including any capital letters and punctuation.
We will not make any other changes to your message, spelling or spaces. Please note however that AardmanByMe.com reserves the right to refuse personalised orders at our discretion. In the case of inappropriate use of this service, your order will be cancelled and fully refunded.

Where will the customisation appear?

There will be an image of the personalised text on the product page indicating where the message will appear on the product, showing what font will be used and what colour the text will be in.

How long can my customisation be?

The number of characters, including spaces, which you can add to your order is displayed when you add the item to your basket and this depends on the product type.

What fonts and colours are used?

The various font types and colours for the text are selected as the most complimentary to the product and cannot be changed.
